Drip, Drip, Drip

And I’m not speaking of the slang use of the word for fashion or coolness. Here I’m speaking of the need for repetition and deliberate skill reinforcement to get the gain and results.

I often express in my client sessions, to get retention and the sustained gain, you’ve got to do a “drip, drip, drip….drip, drip, drip”.

There is no once and done when it comes to skill development and getting new behaviors to stick. We would be in a different world if once and done was sufficient.

Deliberate practice and continuous reinforcement is what is needed. Just like stalagmites form at the bottom of caves from that constant drip from the ceiling, that’s what it takes to build new behavioral mental muscle.

So as you are looking across your team or organization and seeking various forms of leadership transformation, consider what your drip-drip-drip messaging needs to be. As leaders, we often think that repetitive messaging is too much. Studies do not show that. People more often appreciate message reinforcement and repetition.
