Building Leadership Resiliency & Mental Toughness
Probably a good time of year to speak to this, as it’s an ongoing area of misunderstanding. That being what exactly is meant by building resiliency.
Many to most are reflecting on 2023 and setting goals for 2024. One of the biggest challenges we all face is performing and learning to the best of our leadership ability in the midst of challenges and adversity.
While the world view is often “just power through it” or “suck it up”, those thinking processes or even feedback from others are generally not helpful. Yet, there are well over 50 studied and applied strategies for building up our mental capacity to best deal with life’s stuff when the wind is blowing in our face and not at our back.
All the development or performance goals we set for ourselves and our teams can not possibly be achieved in the timeframe or scope without being able to mentally function at our best. Effective wellness and resiliency to challenging situations must precede those conditions (yes, I do get that being put through life experiences does matter, but it’s not the end all).
Consider all the resiliency factors in the chart here. Which will you focus on more intentionally in 2024? Have a mindset of incorporating resiliency training so that you and your teams are conditioned to the fullest for what is yet to come.
