Quotes and Statements
On social medial largely, but also in buildings, schools and locker rooms, I continue to see displays of quotes and statements on mission, leadership and culture. The extensive use of observing them is intriguing.
To be clear, I believe they “can be” useful, when reinforced with behavioral training on specific skills that enable individuals to model and live up to those quotes and statements. On their own they might provide a spark-but that spark needs doses of fuel to get the fire burning bright.
If we were all able to just respond to perform in the context of those quotes and statements, the world would be a very different place. Personal development would be easy. Performance improvement would be a snap.
Reality is that we are all human, and it takes waves of training, repetition and feedback to develop us so that we can perform to our best of abilities.
The message here is simple. If you are going to use the motivational and vision oriented quotes and statements for your teams, but sure to infuse the teams with the skills and behavior reinforcement needed to achieve them. With that, be sure to provide frequent feedback and recognition when you observe them being demonstrated.
