#1 Coaching is highly situational and complex - It’s not simply what strategy do you apply next . Rather, you must consider what you have already done, what has worked well or not, to decide(predict) what to apply next.
#2 Coaching requires use of multiple strategies - It’s unlikely that applying only one strategy will work most effectively and get sustained change. Effectiveness results from the integrated, skillful use of multiple strategies.
#3 Communication is EVERYTHING - How you communicate adaptively and with clarity with the individual(s) will either amplify or dilute your coaching effectiveness and your ability to work through ensuing goal setting, conflicts and progress. This includes use repetition and validating your communication was understood.
