Achieving Leadership Mastery Starts Here

Intentionality And You

One of the most powerful behavioral control mechanisms we each have at our disposal, is the power of being more intentional. I am speaking to intentionality of thought, choices, decisions and actions.

We often operate on what is better know as auto-pilot or default behavior. In fact, there is belief (research based) that we operate in that mode over 90% of our day. While this can benefit us with regard to reflexive and in the moment thinking and reactions, it works against us when it comes to developmental growth and more purposeful action taking.

Each of us has the ability to be more intentional. Reflect on and situationally apply some of the strategies below:

  • Keep your habit change and growth goals RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU.

  • Elevate your conscious self-awareness.

  • Think more about what you are thinking about and why.

  • Manage negativity (and manage your time around people who are more negative).

  • Stay in the flow and focus zone. Manage distractions.

  • Put your more creative and hard focus areas in the front end of your day when you are fresher.

  • Incorporate brief recharges into your day. We lose focus when we are depleted.

  • Get the right amount of sleep. Same point as the above bullet. It’s a mental fight to stay focused when you are tired.
