A Time To Elevate Your Mindset

Perspective, performance and perseverance varies based upon our mindset. Our beliefs, values, attitudes and choices can elevate us to new heights or cause us to drag around the chains of negativity.

As we look at our goals in 2021, it’s a great time to do some self evaluation on our mindset in the diverse situations we face. In “one word”, it’s time to ELEVATE how we are looking at those situations and maybe even challenge our existing BELIEFS that are getting in the way of effectiveness and personal growth.

Here are some mindset management tips.

  • Become more attuned to the many downward and upward emotional spirals you experience during the day. These are your positive and negative emotional ups and downs throughout your day. With the 1000’s of daily thoughts, we bounce negative to positive all the time. All of us go negative. It’s more of a question of just how long we stay there. Become much more aware of your ratio of positive/negative thoughts and emotions.

  • When you recognize negativity, be committed to questioning why you are experiencing it. What is driving it? Recognizing this is the first step to enable you to shift your focus to get to of it. We can control a LOT more of our responses when we become more emotionally self-aware.

  • Be willing to assess what “beliefs” (your version of the truths) are creating that mindset. If the belief is no longer valid or is negatively impacting you, isn’t it time to dispute it with new information or findings?

  • Finally, watch out for what we call “thinking traps”. These are erroneous errors in self-talk logic that keep us stuck on a way of thinking. An example could be experiencing a setback and having self-talk that gets stuck in “now I will never” way of thinking.
