Emotional IQ Self Assessment Questions-1

Emotional IQ (EIQ) generally has 4 dimensions (sometimes labeled domains) to it: Self awareness, emotional regulation, social awareness and relationship management. Self awareness is most key and essential to all the other 3 dimensions. Conducting a self assessment with any competency can often help us identify improvement awareness and opportunity areas.

EIQ is a broad, comprehensive area, requiring many behavioral skills and intentional focus to improve. There is no one way to describe and apply EIQ. Everyone has different situations and circumstances that drives different needs and application in varying degrees. Everyone can have different EIQ set points. Finally, it’s important to know that all of us can improve.

Here are some self awareness questions you can check yourself with. This is only a subset. Reach out if you are interested in a more comprehensive assessment.

  1. Are you aware when your mindset is more positive or more negative?

  2. Are you mindful of your thoughts patterns?

  3. Do you know the ripple effect of your emotions?

  4. Do you embrace discomfort?

  5. Do you feel your emotions as they occur or when things bother you?

  6. Are you aware of your emotional triggers?

  7. Do you know who activates your triggers?

  8. Can you get from bad mood to better mood?

  9. Do you check yourself from having a possible negative reaction with a pause?
