RESILIENCY!!
Resiliency is not any “one thing”, but rather the result of many life events AND use of proven strategies/methods to manage how we are dealing with stress and anxiety. While we can become more resilient as the result of getting through a crises such as the global virus, knowing how to employ those resiliency building strategies can help keep us all positive and create a mental buffer for ongoing stress.
Many universities such as Penn, Yale, Harvard and UNC Chapel Hill have deeply studied key methods that build resiliency, especially over the past 20 years. Some research shows there are well over 50 methods. The main message is that when the methods are used properly and consistently, they work. They boost positivity and overall life well being.
Here’s the short hand, big picture view of the strategies at the top:
Maintain positive emotions, while recognizing why negativity is occurring. Dispute negative thinking with facts, data and logic. This is all about self-talk management.
Stay immersed in tasks that you find highly enjoyable and have a passion for. Eliminate distractions. Stay focused.
Leverage your relationships. Be thankful for them. Forgive others. Share good news with family, friends and coworkers. Write a gratitude letter.
Find the meaning and purpose in your day and work, even in small ways. Help others find meaning in what they do. Seek clarity of your purpose.
Savor achievements. Count the small wins and not just the big ones. It’s the small wins that build to the big ones.
