Stop Worrying, Add Value

I get to observe many leaders at all levels concerned about their role. They are concerned about AI, longevity, politics, talent, generational differences, the economy-you name it.

My advice to those leaders is to transfer the energy and cognitive focus you are putting into those areas above and others, into finding ways to add value to the success of your teams.

It’s time go beyond the “management or administrative” aspects of your position-to the obstacle removal, inspiration, vision and motivation. Yes, the day to day yuck stuff will always be there. I get that. But don’t allow that to become your driven focus. And don’t make excuses noting just how disabling that day to day is. Make a “stop list” (what you need to stop doing) and a “start list” (what you need to do more of) and execute it.

Ask your team members:

What is getting in your way?

How can I aid in your success?

What enables you to feel great purpose through your role?

Do you feel most comfortable speaking the truth?

What enables you to do your best work?

Net-find ways to amplify the skills and abilities of your teams. Don’t settle for ordinary-help them become extra-ordinary.
