Achieving Leadership Mastery Starts Here

Drop The Ego!

It’s relatively easy for our confidence and high competency in any particular skill area to become an “ego” situation. This can happen in business, education, athletics and ministry. Our “mindset” now tells us (we are making this choice actually) that we are better than others or even “good enough”. We believe we are “elite” and have a special talent and ability that sets us apart. We start to interact and treat people differently, consciously or subconsciously. We even stop developing (again, “good enough”) in certain areas.

As humans, when we are on the receiving end of someone with an ego who behaves in a “elite” manner, it doesn’t feel good and certainly doesn’t inspire and motivate us to develop and perform at our best. Most people do not respect others with that kind of “swagger”.

The key message here is that just because you have developed or inherited a special ability, talent or skill, does not mean you should treat others differently. Rather, use your skills and character strengths in the appropriate way to genuinely help motivate, inspire, develop others and lift them up. Put them “on your back” and “under your wing”, rather than cast that negative shadow over them. You will find that in your life, that “giving” of yourself, will ultimately benefit you more significantly than your ego does.
